God in 2010!

January 5, 2010

Happy New Year!!! Let’s be honest, God is good to us. If we were to stop and think about all he did in 2009 we’d be motivated to give thanks and worship him.

My family and I made some time over a meal to look back into 2009 and we were not surprised to find loads to be thankful for.

Over the years I’ve found it helpful to look back and to look forward. But it’s important to stop and think about God’s goodness while we’re doing it too, as he is the One who makes all things possible.

Question: Have you looked back and given thought to what you could give God thanks for in 2009? If not, I’d encourage you to do it, as it’s a good way of recognising God’s kindness.

Another question: Have you made plans into 2010? Again, if not, I’d encourage you to do it, as it’s good to have a sense of what you’d like to achieve. But when making plans let me encourage you to remember what the Bible says.

Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all.  Run to God! Run from evil!’ Proverbs 3:5-7

Next Steps: Take some time to think about God’s provision last year. Maybe he helped you through a difficult time at school, the pressures of exams, to work through a complicated relationship. Maybe he helped you to understand Him more and regularly made himself known to you through his word and Holy Spirit. I’m sure if you were to stop and think you’d be able to make a list!

Set some goals for 2010. Maybe you could ask God to help you spend more time with him in prayer or reading the Bible. You may want to improve your academic results at school or improve your relationship with your parents or siblings. I’ve written about a few of my plans for 2010 on my reflections blog.

Whatever your plans, run them by God first. Then ask for his help and get him involved in 2010!

    I love this website Nick.

What a great way for the youth to keep in touch with all that’s going on – there’s so much!

Your blogs are always thought provoking.

    Thank you.

    • Thank you for your comment Sarah.

The site is aimed at keeping young people and parents in the loop, as well as being a source of teaching, provocation and encouragement. I’m glad you like it!

Keep posted as there’ll be posts written by young people too in the near future.

      God bless.

Really good points Nicholas. I’ve always been a planner so taking some take to reflect will hopefully add to a lot. Great verse as well! It’s amazing – thousands of miles away but God still knows what I need to hear.

    • Thanks for your comment Tom and it’s really good to hear from you.

Have you managed to get to the top of that new building yet? If you do please send a picture.

      Hope it’s going well.

      God bless
